This purpose of this research is to know the effect of guessing games in teaching English for Young Learners of the Fifth Year Students of SD Negeri Sidakaton 04 Recidence Tegal.
According to related theory, the hypothesis of this research is that there is significant difference of students English achievement between students who are taught English by using guessing games and the students who are taught English without using guessing games.
The population of this research is the Fifth year students of SD N Sidakaton 04 recidence Tegal, in Academic year 2010-2011. The number of the population is 68 students and the number of the sample is 60 students.
The writer using random sampling technique to choose the sample of the research. The sample, are divided into two groups, the experiment group consisting of students who are taught English using guessing games and control group consisting of students who are taught English without using guessing games. And each group contains 30 students. The writer uses test as the instrument of the research. To know the validity and reliability of the instrument, the writer tries out the instrument by giving a test to 10 students having the same competence with the sample of the study.
In analyzing the research, the writer uses t-test to find the difference of two groups. The result shows that t-ratio is 2,457 and t-table 2,000 at the significant level of 5%. The result of t-ratio is higher than t-table. It shows that the work hypothesis (Hi) is accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected.
The conclusion of this research shows that there is significant difference of student English achievement between students who are taught English by using guessing games and students who are taught English without guessing games.
