Tujuan dari pembelajaran ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat pengaruh positif dalam menggunakan Total Physical Response pada pembelajaran Listening, dan untuk mengetahui keunggulan dan kelemahan dalam menggunakan metode TPR.
Berdasarkan pada landasan teori, kerangka berfikir, hipotesis penelitian ini dirumuskan sebagai berikut : Penggunaan Total Physical Response effektif dalam pengajaran Bahasa Inggris, khususnya pada Pembelajaran Listening.
Populasi Penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 12 Tegal tahun pelajaran 2010/2011 dengan jumlah 108 siswa dari 3 kelas. Penulis menggunakan teknik random sampling untuk memilih sampel penelitian. Jumlah sampel penelitian adalah 30 siswa. Sampel terdiri dari 2 kelompok, kelompok penelitian dan kelompok pengendali. Masing-masing kelompok terdiri dari 30 siswa. Kelompok penelitian adalah kelompok siswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan Total Physical Response dalam pengajaran Listening dan kelompok pengendali adalah kelompok siswa yang tidak diajar dengan menggunakan Total Physical Response dalam pengajaran Listening.
Penulis menggunakan tes sebagai instrumen penelitian. Tes membutuhkan waktu 45 menit untuk menyelesaikannya. Jenis tes yang digunakan adalah pilihan ganda dengan empat pilihan A, B, C, dan D. untuk mengetahui validitas dan reliabilitas instrumen penelitian, penulis mengujicobakan instrument dengan memberikan tes yang sama kepada 30 siswa yang memiliki kemampuan sama dengan sampel penelitian.
Data penelitian ini diperoleh dari hasil tes tertulis yang dikerjakan oleh sampel penelitian selama semester 1. Analisa data penelitian dirumuskan dalam Uji-t. Berdasarkan hasil analisa data, diperoleh t-hitung 2,355 sedangkan t-tabel dengan derajat kebebasan 38 pada taraf signifikansi 5% dan t-tabel adalah 2,021. Hal itu menunjukkan bahwa t-hitung lebih besar daripada t-tabel (2,355>2,021). Itu berarti terdapat perbedaan antara siswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan metode Total Physical Response dan siswa yang tidak diajar dengan menggunakan metode Total Physical Response.
Sehingga, kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah "Penggunaan metode Total Physical Response memberikan pengaruh positif terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Inggris, khususnya Listening siswa kelas VII semester 1 SMP Negeri 12 Tegal Tahun Pelajaran 2010/2011".

The objectives of the study are to know if there is a positive influence on the use of TPR methods (Total Physical Response) in the listening learning, and to identify the advantages and disadvantages of using the TPR method.
Based on the review of theory and frame of thinking, the hypothesis of this research is proposed as follows: using Total Physical Response is effective in teaching English, especially in the listening learning.
The population of this research is the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 12 Tegal in Academic Year 2010/2011 which consisting 108 students from three classes. The number of sample is 30 students. The writer uses random sampling technique to choose the sample of the study. The sample consists of two groups, the experiment group is the students who are taught using Total Physical Response Method in teaching English listening and the control group is the students who are not taught using Total Physical Response in teaching English listening.
The writer uses test as the instrument of the research. The test takes 45 minutes to do. The type of the test is multiple choices with four options A, B, C, and D. To know the validity and the reliability of the instrument, the writer try out the instrument by giving test to the thirty students that having the same competence with the sample of the study.
Data of the research are gained from the result of English test done by sample of the research during the first semester. Data analysis of this research is test by using t-test. Based on the result of data analysis t-ratio is 2,355 whereas t-table with the degree of freedom is 38 on the level significance of 5% and t-table is 2,021. It shows that t-ratio is higher than t-table (2,355>2,021). It means that there is a significant difference of teaching English between the students who are taught using Total Physical Response Method and those are not taught using Total Physical Response Method in teaching English.
So, the conclusion of this research is "Using Total Physical Response Method is positive influence in teaching English listening to the seventh grade students in the first semester of SMP Negeri 12 Tegal, in Academic Year 2010 / 2011.
