Keterampilan membaca merupakan keterampilan yang penting bagi siswa. Keterampilan membaca akan dapat dikuasai jika dilakukan secara berulang-ulang, teratur dan terarah. Membaca memberikan andil yang besar dalam nilai-nilai kehidupan, baik kehidupan dunia pendidikan maupun kehidupan kemasyarakatan. Oleh sebab itu, keberadaan membaca perlu diupayakan secara maksimal. Salah satu keterampilan membaca yaitu membaca intensif. Metode GPID adalah metode yang terdiri atas empat tahap, yaitu goall, plans, implementation, dan development. Setiap tahap dalam metode ini mengharuskan siswa terlibat dalam pembelajaran. Dengan metode GPID diharapkan memperoleh pemahaman yang dibaca secara baik.
Populasi penelitian ini diperoleh dari hasil tes yang dilakukan pada sampel penelitian. Analisis data dari hasil penelitian diuji dengan menggunakan uji t. Berdasarkan analisis t hitung = 2.70 dimana t tabel dengan derajat kebebasan (dk) 32+32-2 = 1.67 pada taraf signifikansi 0.05 harga t tabel 1.67. Perbandingan tersebut membuktikan bahwa hipotesis penelitian ini diterima.
Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahawa siswa SMP NU 1 Bumijawa Kabupaten Tegal yang diajar menggunakan metode GPID mengalami perubahan perilaku yang positif, sehingga berpengaruh pula terhadap prestasi siswa yang lebih baik. Adapun perilaku positif yang timbul yaitu (1) Siswa bersemangat dan antusias saat mengikjuti pembelajaran keterampilan membaca intensif (2) Keaktifan dan keseriusan siswa dalam kegiatan langkah goall, plans, implementation, dan development (3) Siswa menerapkan metode GPID dengan baik (4) Siswa mengerjakan dan mengumpulkan tugas yang diberikan guru.

Reading skill constitus the important skill for the students. Reading skill will be going to mastered when it is done repeatedly, continuously and guidedly. Reading gives ig contribution on the life vaues, both of education world or society life, so the exitency of reading need be striven maximumly. One of reading skill intensive reading. GPID method is a method that consist of four steps, they are Goall, Plans, Implementation, and Development. Every step in this method require the students study stand alone and seriously in order to all of the students involved in learning. By using GPID method hoped students get understanding well from anythings that have read.
Population of this research was gotten from result of the best that was done on sample of the research. Data analysis from result of the test was tested by using t - test formula. Based on the analysis of t- test result : 2.70 while the value of t- table with degree of freedom (dk) 32+32-2 = 1. 67 in significance 0.05 the value of t table 1.67. The comparisor proves that t result higher than t table ( 2.70 > 1.67 ). It showf that hypothesis of this research is accepted.
