The research is to know whether there is positive effect of applying diary to improve recount writing of Senior High School Students of the second grade students of SMA IHSANIYAH Tegal in Academic 2010/2011. This research also tried to make the students create a dramatic situation and improvising a plot.
The research was carried out using experimental research method. There was a reason why this research was done in experimental research. It is tried to find out the effectiveness of diary as media.
The hypothesis of this research is there is positive effect of applying diary to improve recount writing of Senior High School students of the second grade student of SMA IHSANIYAH Tegal in Academic Year 2010/2011.
The population is the whole second grade students of SMU IHSANIYAH Tegal in Academic Year 2010/2011. The number of the population is 111students. The random sampling technique is used to take the sample. There are 80 students as the sample; they are divided into two groups, experiment and control group. The data techniques used is test. The test divided into two parts for each control class and experiment class, there were pre-test and post-test. The tests used were open-essay tests. The test was evaluated by using Burhan Nurgiantoro's measurement that consisted of measurement in content, organization, grammar, style, and mechanic of the text.
The results of research students writing ability improves 20.99%, it could be seen from the mean of pre-test (53.15) and post-test (64,3). After measuring student's work, then the writer used t-test to analyze the effectiveness of diary. The result of the t-test was compared with t-table.
The result of t-test of experimental class and control class was 7.285; it was higher than t-table at the level significance 5% for df=40 (2,021). It is proved that diary was effective to teach recount writing.
