The background of this thesis is the writer would like to know whether there is positive effect in students’ writing achievement in recount text after they are taught by using Guided Writing Technique. Guided Writing Technique is the way to teach, guide, and help students to write by supported steps to independence in writing.
The objectives of this research are to describe the implementation of guided writing technique in teaching writing for the first year students of SMA Negeri 1 Kramat, Tegal Regency in the academic year of 2010/2011, and to find out whether the use of Guided Writing Technique gives a positive effect after they are taught by using Guided Writing Technique.
Based on the review of related literature and framework of thinking, the hypothesis of this research is that there is a positive effect of the students’ writing achievement in recount text after they are taught by using Guided Writing Technique of the first year students of SMA N 1 Kramat Tegal in the academic year of 2010/2011 .
This research is experimental design. In this research, the writer finds out the effect of Guided Writing Technique in improving students’ writing achievement in recount text. The writer uses two groups design. The population of this research is all of the first year students of SMA N 1 Kramat Tegal consisting of 324 students. To collect the data, the writer uses simple random sampling technique to take the sample of the research. The total of the sample is 60 students from the population. The sample is divided into two groups namely experimental group and control group. Each group consists of 30 students.
To check the improvement of students’ writing achievement in recount text, the writer only applies one test in this resarch, it is post test. The writer uses a writing test as the instrument of the research. The instrument is given to the experiment group and control group.
Afterwards, the data of this research is gained from the writing test that is given to the sample of this research. To analyze the data, the writer uses t-test to know the difference between the two groups. Based on the data analysis, t-ratio is 4,258 with the degree of freedom (df) is 58 on the level of significance 5% and the t-table is 2,000. It means that the t-ratio is higher than t-table (4,258 > 2,000). It means that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the hypothesis of the research (H1) is accepted.
The conclusion of this research is that the use of Guided Writing Technique gives a positive effect towards students’ writing achievement in recount text of the students who are taught by using guided writing technique in the first year students of SMA N 1 Kramat Tegal in the academic year of 2010/2011.
