THE EFFECT OF MIND MAPPING METHOD ON THE STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENT OF VOCABULARY (An Experimental Study at The First Year Students of SLTP Negeri 02 Jatibarang in Academic Year 2011 / 2012 )

The objective of this research is to know the effectiveness of using mind mapping method in vocabulary teaching for the first year (class VII) students of SLTP Negeri 02 Jatibarang, Brebes in academic year 2011/2012.
Based on the theoretical background and logical frame work, the research hypothesis is proposed as follows: the using of mind mapping method gives positive effect toward vocabulary mastery for the students of class VII of SLTP Negeri 02 Jatibarang, Brebes.
The research population is students of two classes of class VII of SLTP Negeri 02 Jatibarang, Brebes in academic year 2011/2012. The research samples consists of 40 students which is divided into 2 (two) groups. The first group is the experimental group consisting of 20 students and second group is the control group consisting of 20 students too. Taking a class into objects sample can be done randomly (random sampling) so as to allow all units (unit) which became population has the odds in sampling (example) by means of a draw.
The data of this research is gained by multiple choice tests, which consist of 30 items questions. The analysis of this research is calculated by using t-test formula. The result of research shows that t-test is 4,559. After consulting to t-table at significance level 1%, so it is gained t-table is 2,457. The research result shows that t-test is higher than t-table (4,559 > 2,457). Therefore, the Ha is accepted and Ho is refused.
From the calculation above, it is concluded that the using of mind mapping method is effective for vocabulary mastering for the first year students of SLTP Negeri 02 Jatibarang, Brebes, in academic year 2011/2012. Mind mapping method can give positive effect on the student’ vocabulary achievement.
