THE USE OF WEBLOG AS MEDIA IN THE TEACHING OF WRITING (An Experimental Study to the Third Semester Students of English Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty University of Pancasakti Tegal, in the Academic Year of 2011/ 2012)

The objective of this research is to find out whether the use of weblog gives positive effects in the teaching of writing or not, to the third semester students of English Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty University of Pancasakti Tegal who are taught by using weblog.
Based on review of related literature and framework of thinking, hypothesis of this research is proposed as follows: “The use of weblog as a media in the teaching of writing will give positive effect to the students’ writing.”
This research is experimental which consist of two-group design. The population of this study is the third semester students of English Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty University of Pancasakti Tegal in the Academic Year of 2011/ 2012 and the total number is 188 students from 6 classes. Samples of this research are 60 students. The samples are taken by using random sampling technique. The sample is divided into two groups, i.e.: an experimental group and control group. The first group or experiment group consists of 30 students who are taught using weblog and the second group or control group consists of 30 students who are taught without by using weblog as media. The researcher uses written test as the type of instrument of the research the written test is used to measure the students in writing report text.
The result of data analysis in this research is tested by using t-test, for testing the differences between two groups. On the degree of freedom 58 and the level of significant α = 5% (0,05), we can get t-table = 1,645 and t-test (86,09). It shows that t-test is higher than t-table (86,09 > 1,645). It means that the hypothesis of the research is accepted. The students who are taught by using weblog get higher score than students who are taught without using weblog.
Based on the result of data analysis, the writer takes a conclusion that the use of weblog gives a positive effect towards students’ writing ability on the third semester of English Department Teacher Training and Education Faculty Pancasakti University in Academic 2011/2012. Hence, it can be suggest that Weblog is one of the learning media to teach writing which can help students to increase their writing.
