THE USE OF ROLE PLAY TO IMPROVE STUDENT’S SPEAKING SKILL IN TRANSACTIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL TEXT (A Classroom Action Research to Eight Grade Students of SMP Ma’arif NU Margasari in the Academic 2010-2011)

The statement of the problems are : 1) Is role play effective to improve student’s speaking skill in transactional and interpersonal text at eight grade of SMP Ma’arif NU Margasari in the academic year 2010/2011? ; 2) How to implement role play in speaking skill hearing process at eight grade of SMP Ma’arif NU Margasari in the academic year 2010/2011?.
The objectives of the study are : 1) To describe the problem in connected by the student’s speaking skill in transactional and interpersonal; 2) To find out wether or not role play is effective to improve student’s speaking skill in transactional and interpersonal text.
The research is roleplay method. The population of this study is eight grade of SMP Ma’arif NU Margasari.
From the conclusion above, there are some suggestions that are proposed by the writer are : 1)Teacher should use role play as a method in the teaching of speaking transactional and interpersonal text, because it can help students express their idea through speaking. By doing role play, students will not doubt to try to speak because role is done by group or pair, so it can build students’ bravery to speak using English. 2) Teacher should prepare the situations well. It means that before using role play as method in the teaching of speaking transactional and interpersonal text. It will be better if teacher makes sure that the situations and description that will be played by the students is not too easy and not too difficult. Moreover the situations must be suitable with the material in the students’ level. 3) Teacher should be able to manage the class that suddenly become so hysteric and hard to be controlled when some students make mistake in doing role play and the rest students laugh to them.
Based on the result above, the writer will offer some suggestion. The suggestions are : 1) Talk to all your students not just the better English speakers. Make English a vital language for communication. 2) Make English the language of your class room. 3) Introduces your class to other speaker’s of English personally or through use of video and audio tapes
