ABSTRACT
ROSALINA NADIA PRATIWI. 2012. The Effect of Pre Questioning with Pictures Technique on The Students Reading Comprehension Achievement (An Experimental Researchon The Second Grade Students At SMA N 1 Brebes In Academic Year 2010/2011).
Keywords: pre-question, reading comprehension.
This study was aimed to find out the effect of pre question method toward reading comprehension achievement, to find out the suitable method to increase students’ reading comprehension skill, and to find out the positive influence of the usage of pre question method toward reading comprehension achievement.
This is an experimental research where the forms of questions were in multiple choice and essay, multiple choice used for reading comprehension tests and essay used for Pre-questioning tests. There were sixty of second grade students of IPS classes at sma n 1 brebes in academic year 2010/2011 as the sample on this study.
Based on the results of the research, it showed that the description of the data obtained between group I (experimental group) with an average rating of 6,67, and group II (control group) with a mean value 5,58 average, at 5% significant level r – table is 0,444, so the value of validity is 0,543. Because r – test is higher than of the r – table (0,543 > 0,444), so that the test is valid. With the level of significant 5%, r – table is 0,444, so the value of reliability is 0,627, we can see that r- test is higher than of the r- table (0,727 > 0,444) this means that the test is reliable.
From statistical computation, the result of t- test is 3,892. The writer consults it to t – table with 5% significant level is 1,645. Because the result of the t – test is higher than t – table (3,892 > 1,645), so the null hypothesis (H0) is refused and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accept.
In other words, the students’ achievements who are taught by using pre question method is better than students who are not taught by using pre question method. The result of this study shows that “the pre-questioning has a significant effect on the students’ reading comprehension achievement”
There are several suggestions that ought to be considered by the English teachers when they conduct the teaching of reading for comprehension. First, it is important for the teacher to improve the students’ comprehension in reading text by giving any assignment or home work, especially the question in form of main idea and supporting detail. Second, It hoped that the teacher teach the reading comprehension from the easiest to the most difficult one. Third, the teacher should build a favorable atmosphere at times of teaching¬-learning process conducted. Fourth, future researchers are suggested to conduct the research that involves the teaching of reading strategies on specific text types in reading for comprehension.
