THE EFFECT OF USING COLLABORATIVE WRITING STRATEGY ON STUDENTS’ WRITING ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Study of the Third Semester Students of English Department of University of Pancasakti Tegal in the Academic Year of 2011/2012)

The objectives of this research are to find out whether or not the use of collaborative writing strategy gives positive effect and to know its effect on students’ writing achievement of the third semester students of English Department of University of Pancasakti Tegal in the academic year of 2011/2012 which are 190 students. By using random sampl;ing technique, the writer takes 40 students as sample. It is divided into two groups; the experimental group which were taught by employing the collaborative writing strategy and the control one which did not.
In collecting the data, the writer used a test as instrument of the research which is in written test form. The students were asked to write a descriptive text about person or famous place at least 300 words in 60 minutes. Therefore, the data of this research is tested by using t-test. It shows that t-ratio is 4,047 whereas t table with degree of freedom (38) and on the level significance 5% t-table is 1,645 (4,047 >1,645). It means that the objectives of the research are achieved. In another words, the students who were taught by using Collaborative Writing Strategy have better writing achievement than those who were not taught by using Collaborative Writing Strategy. It could be concluded that the use of Collaborative Writing Strategy gives positive effect to the students’ writing achievement.
