THE EFFECT OF USING HANGMAN GAME ON THE STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Study of the Fifth Grade Students of SDN O2 Sidorejo Comal Regency Pemalang in Academic Year 2011 / 2012)

The objective of this research is to know whether there is positive effect of Hangman Game toward Vocabulary Achievement of the Fifth Grade Students at SD N 02 Sidorejo in academic year 2011/2012.
Based on the theoretical background and the logical framework, the hypothesis is proposed as follows: There is a positive effect of Hangman Game on vocabulary achievement of the fifth grade students.
The population of the research is the fifth grade students at SD N 02 Sidorejo.The writer applies random sampling technique to take the sample of the research at SD N 02 Sidorejo. The writer uses two group designs: class VA as an experiment group whereas class VB as a control group. Each group consists of 30 students. The experiment group is taught by using Hangman Game, while the control group is taught using First and Last Game. Both of them are given the same vocabulary test.Then the writer also takes 30 of the fifth grade students at SD N 02 Pedagung as tryout group.
The writer uses a multiple choice test as the instrument of the research. The multiple choice test consists of 40 items which has four options. The students do the test in 60 minutes. To know the validity and reliability of the instrument, the writer tries out the instrument by giving the test to 30 students who have the same competence with the sample of this research.
The data of the research is gained from vocabulary test. It was given to the sample of this research. To analyze the data, the writer uses t-test to know the difference between the two groups. Based on the result of the data analysis, t-ratio is 4.703 with degree of freedom (df) 58 and the level of significance (α) 5 %, and the table is 1.645. It means that the ratio is higher than the t-table (4.703>1.645). It can be concluded that the hypothesis of the research is accepted.
The conclusion of this research is there is a positive effect of using hangman game toward vocabulary achievement of the fifth grade students at SD N 02 Sidorejo in academic year 2011/2012.
