The Effect of Applying Numbered Head Together (NHT) Technique toward Grammar Achievement (An Experimental Research to the Second Grade Students of SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung in Academic Year 2011/2012)

The objective of the research is to find out the effect of applying Numbered Head Together (NHT) technique toward grammar achievement on the second grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung in academic year 2011/2012.
Based on the theoretical background and logical framework, the hypothesis of the research is that the application of Numbered Head Together (NHT) technique can give positive effect toward grammar achievement of the second students of Senior High School”. In other word, the students who are taught by using NHT technique will get better achievement on grammar than the students who are taught without using NHT technique.
The population of the research is the second grade students in the second semester of SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung in academic year 2011/2012. The samples of the research are 60 students who are divided into two groups. The first group is experimental group, which consists of 30 students. Then the second group is control group, which consists of 30 students. The sample is taken by using random sampling technique.
The data of the research is obtained by a multiple choice test, which consists of 30 items. The analysis of this research is conducted by using t-test. Then the result of the research shows that t-ratio is 2.2894, while t-table at significant level of 5% is 2.0000. Thus, the result of the research shows that t-ratio is higher than t-table, so the hypothesis is accepted.
The conclusion of this research is that the application of NHT technique in teaching grammar can give positive effect toward grammar Achievement on the second grade students in the second semester at SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung in academic year 2011/2012.
The results of this research can be used as an alternative learning model to enhance the learning process is based proxies and can improve the attitudes and social behavior, so learning outcomes will be optimal.
