The Effectiveness of Using Process-Oriented Approach towards the Students’ Writing Ability (A Case Study at the First Year Students of SMA Negeri 2 Pemalang in the Academic Year of 2011/2012)

The objectives of this research is to find out whether or not there is a positive effect of using Process-Oriented Approach and there are any significant differences towards students’ writing ability at first year students of SMA Negeri 2 Pemalang in the academic year of 2011/2012.
Population in this research is all the students at the first year of SMA Negeri 2 Pemalang in the academic year of 2011/2012, which are 320 students. Then, the writer takes 60 students as sample by using cluster random sampling. The sample is divided into 2 groups; the experimental group which consists of 30 students who are taught by using Process-Oriented Approach and the control group which also consists of 30 students who are taught by Product-Oriented Approach.
The writer uses a written test as instrument of the research to make a descriptive paragraph. Then, the time of doing the test is 90 minutes. To find out its validity and reliability, the writer gives the test to other 30 students who have the same competence with the sample.
The research data is gained from the result of test done by the sample research. The data of this research is tested by using t-test. Based of the result of data analysis, it shows that t-test is 6,508 with the level significance (α) is 5% and the degree of freedom (dk) 58, t-table is 1,699. The comparison shows that t-test is higher than t-table (6,508>1,699). It means that the hypothesis of the research is accepted that there is positive effect of Process-Oriented Approach towards students’ writing ability at first year students of SMA Negeri 2 Pemalang in the academic year of 2011/2012.
