The Effect of Using Community Language Learning (CLL) Method toward Students’ Vocabulary Achievement. (An Experimental Study at the First Grade Students of SMP Ihaniyah Tegal in the Academic Year of 2011/2012)

The objective of this research are to describe the implementation of the CLL method in teaching vocabulary, to find out if the use of CLL method gives positive effect to the students’ vocabulary achievement, and to find out if there is any significant difference of the students who are taught by using CLL method and who are taught by using GTM on their vocabulary achievement
Based on the review of related literature, the hypothesis of this research is as follow: there is positive effect by using CLL method towards vocabulary achievement of the first grade student at SMP Ihsaniyah tegal in the Academic Year of 2011/2012.
The research is conduct on the first grade students at SMP Ihsaniyah Tegal in the academic year of 2011/2012. The total number of subjects is 152. In this research, the writer is using cluster random sampling techique to choose the subject of the research. The writer takes 60 students as the samples. They are divided into two groups. Each group consists of 30 students. The first group (ex-perimental) is group of students who are taught by using CLL method and the second group (control) is a group of students who are taught by using GTM.
The writer gives a test to the first and the second group, the writer gives a set of test vocabulary. It is a multiple-choice test with options A, B, C, D. To find out the validity and the reliability of the instrument, the writer gives the test to 33 students who have the same competence with the samples and the time allocation is 60 minutes.
Afterwards, the data is tested by t-test formula. To determine whether or not there is any significant different result between the two groups. The first group ( ) is 7,9 and the second group ( ) is 7,0. T- test is 5,882, it is then consulted to the t -table with 5% significant level and the degree freedom (df) = (n1+n2) – 2 = (30+30) – 2 = 58. The comparison shows that the result of t-test is higher than t-table (5,882 > 2,001).
It could be concluded that the application of CLL method gives positive effect towards vocabulary achievement. It is suggested that the teacher should be able to select the appropriate method so the student will reach goals effectively.
