The Effect of Implementing Paraphrase Technique towards Students' Reading Ability (An Experimental Study at the Tenth Grade Students of MA Darunnajat Bumiayu Brebes in Academic Year 2011/2012).

The objective of this research is to describe the implementation of English reading instruction through paraphrase technique, to find out whether paraphrase technique give positive effect toward students reading ability, and also to find out whether paraphrase technique can improve the students interest at English reading instruction. Paraphrase technique is a technique which is used in English reading instruction which is emphasizing at the way of translating a sentence, paragraph, and or a text in certain Language context into easy congeniality comprehended by someone or they comprehend the sentence, paragraph or text into their own language, to get the better understanding without eliminating meaning from the Language.
Based on the theory, the research hypothesis is drawn as follow: there is positive effect towards students' reading ability after they are taught through Paraphrase Technique at the Tenth Grade Students of Madrasah Aliyah Darunnajat Bumiayu Brebes in academic year 2011/2012.
This study is experimental research which consists of one group design. The design uses one group pre test and post test design. The population of this research is the Tenth Grade Students of Madrasah Aliyah Darunnajat Bumiayu Brebes in Academic Year 2011/2012. The samples consist of 39 students.
The writer uses reading test and questionnaire test as the instrument of the research. The reading test is used to measure the students' reading ability. The type of this test is 50 multiple choice items with 4 options A, B, C, or D. the questionnaire is used to collect the data about students' interest in learning of English reading through paraphrase technique.
The hypothesis testing result shows that paraphrase technique influence students' reading ability. It is proven by the result that〖 r〗_value 7,690> r_table2,021, which implied that there is positive and significant effect of paraphrase towards students' reading ability. So, there is different ability in reading English before and after they are taught through paraphrase. Hence, it can be shows that the null hypothesis (H_0) is rejected and other hand, the alternative hypothesis (H_1) is accepted.
The finding indicates that there is positive effect of paraphrase toward students' reading ability. It also shows that from the result of questionnaire, paraphrase makes 80% students at the Tenth Grade Students of MA Darunnajat Bumiayu Brebes semester 2 in Academic Year 2011/2012 more interest in learning reading English. It also shows that there is a significance effect to the students before and after they are taught through paraphrase.
