The Effect of Visual Modality Learning Style towards Students’ Vocabulary Ability” ( An Experimental Research to the First Grade Students of SMA Muhammadiyah Tegal in the Academic Year 2011 / 2012 )

The objectives of the research is to find out whether or not visual modality learning style gives positive effect towards the students’ vocabulary ability to the first grade of SMA Muhammadiyah Tegal in the academic year 2011 / 2012.
The population of this research is the first grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Tegal in the academic year 2011 / 2012 which consists of 88 students. The research takes 46 students for the sample who are selected by using
proportionate stratified sample random. The sample consists of two groups. They are 23 students as experimental group who are threat by visual modality learning style, and 23 students as control group who are not threat by visual modality learning style.
The data is obtained by conducting test, the kind of the test in this research is multiple choices item of vocabulary which are consist of 50 questions. The writer had tried out the instrument by giving tests to the other students having the same competence with the sample.
Data analysis of the research is tested by using t-test, the writer consults it to t-table with 5% significant level and degree of freedom 44. The writer finds that t-table is 2, 42. It proves that t-test is higher than t-table ( 4, 04 > 2, 42 ). Because the result of the t-test is higher than t-table, thus the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted, which means that visual modality learning style give positive effect towards students’ in vocabulary ability to the first grade of SMA Muhammadiyah Tegal in academic year 2011 / 2012.
