The Effect of Pre-Writing Technique towards Students’ Ability in Writing Narrative Text (An Experimental Study to the First Grade Students of SMA Negeri 1 Pagerbarang in the Academic Year 2011/2012)

The objectives of the study are to describe the implementation of Pre-writing Technique and to find out the effect of Pre-writing Technique towards students’ ability in writing narrative text to the first grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Pagerbarang in the academic year of 2011/2012.
Based on the theoretical background, the hypothesis of this study is that there is a positive effect of Pre-writing Technique towards students’ ability in writing narrative text to the first grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Pagerbarang in the academic year of 2011/2012.
The population of this research is the first grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Pagerbarang in the academic year 2011/2012 which consists of 175 students. The writer uses cluster random sampling technique to choose the samples of the research. They are divided into two groups. The first group is an experimental group which consists of the students who are taught by Pre-writing technique and the second one is a control group that consists of the students who are not taught by Pre-writing technique. Each group consists of 30 students. The instrument used in this research is a written test. The type of test used an essay test. From the test, the students must be able to make narrative text as many as two hundred vocabularies.
Based on the data analysis, the t-test is 3,505 with the degree of freedom 58 on the significance level of 5%. T-table is 2,000. The computation shows that t-test is higher than t-table (3,505 > 2,000). It means that the hypothesis of the research is accepted.
The conclusion of the research is that there is a significant difference between the students who are taught by Pre-writing technique and the students who are not taught by pre writing technique. In addition, the teacher could use pre writing technique to improve the students’ motivation.
