The Effect of Gap-fill Sentences Technique towards Students’ English Achievement (An Experimental Study to the Fifth Grade Student of SD Negeri 03 Kendalsari in Academic year 2011/2012)

The main objective of this study is to find out if the use of Gap-fill Sentences give a positive effect on the student English achievement of the fifth grade students of SD Negeri 03 Kendalsari Pemalang in academic year 2011/2012.
Based on the review of related literature and logical framework, the hypothesis of this research is formulated as follow: “The use of Gap-fill Sentences will give the positive effect on the students” English achievement in the fifth grade students of Elementary School”
The population of this research is all of the fifth grade students of SD Negeri 02 and SD Negeri 03 Kendalsari Pemalang in academic year 2011/2012. Total sample of this research 60 students, they are divided into two groups. Group one is the experiment group that consist of students who are taught by using Gap-fill sentences from SD Negeri 03 Kendalsari Pemalang. Group two is the control group that consist of student who are taught without using Gap-fill sentences from SD Negeri 02 Kendalsari Pemalang. The samples are taken by using random sampling technique.
This research data is obtained from English test conducted by the sample research. Analysis of research data was tested by using t-test on basis of analysis of the t-count 5,422 where t-table with 58 degrees t-table 1,645 and the significance level 5%. It means the result of t-test is higher than t-table (5,422>1,645) Comparison proves that this research hypothesis acceptable.
Thus, it can be concluded that students who are taught by using Gap-fill sentences in English achievement get better result than student who are taught without using Gap-fill sentences.
