The Implementation of Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) towards Students’ Achievement in Structure (An Experimental Study to the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Al-Irsyad Kota Tegal in the Academic Year 2011/ 2012)

The present study entitled “The implementation of Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) towards students’ achievement in structure”. The aim of this study is to answer the research question: Does the Computer-Assisted Language Learning have a positive effect towards the eleventh grade students’ achievement in structure?
In order to achieve the objective of this study the writer uses one group experiment using pre- test and post- test. The population of this study is the eleventh grade students of SMA Al-Irsyad Kota Tegal. The number of the subject is 28 students. There are nine meetings during the experiment. Before the experiment was conducted, the students were given a pre- test. At the end of the experiment, the students were given a post- test. Before the test was used, it had been tried out first. The purpose of conducting the try out was to find out the validity and the reliability of the test as an instrument.
The result of the study shows that the students’ progress in mastering English structure during the teaching learning activity by using CALL programmed using Adobe Flash is good. The students’ achievement in English structure improved. By comparing the pre- test and the post- test scores, the writer gets the significant difference of the result. The mean of the pre- test and post- test scores are 67.38 and 71.79. The difference between the two means is post- test score 4.41 higher than pre- test score. Furthermore, the result of applying one sample t- test revealed that the obtained value (2.2417) is higher than the table value (2.052). It means that there is a significant difference in grade of English structure test achieved by the students after they have been taught by using CALL.
In reference to the result of this study, the conclusion is drawn that implementation of CALL by using Flash program has a positive effect towards students’ structure achievement. In line with the result, the writer suggests that English teacher should be able to create their own way to arise their students’ interest in following their teaching. The implementation of Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) as a technique is one way to achieve this goal. However, teachers must select the suitable method related to the material they are going to teach.
