THE EFFECT OF USING FILMS TOWARD STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN WRITING NARRATIVE TEXT (An Experimental Study of Year Eleventh Students of SMA N 1 Bantarbolang in the Academic Year 2011/2012)

The Objective of this research is to find out whether or not there is a positive effect of using Films toward Students’Ability In Writing Narrative Text.
Based on review of related literature and frame of thinking, the hypothesis of the research is proposed as follows using films gives positive effect toward students’ability in writing narrative text.
The population of this research is the eleventh year students of SMA N1 Bantarbolang. The number population is 273 students. The writer uses cluster random sampling technique to choose the sample of the research. The number of sample is 80 students. The sample consists of two groups; each group consists of 40 students. Group I is experimental group, it consists of the students who are taught by using films in writing narrative text. Group II is control group, it consists of the students who are not taught by using films in writing narrative text.
The writer uses a written test as the instrument of the research, to make narrative paragraph. Then, the time of doing the test is 90 minutes. To find out its validity and reliability, the writer gives test to other 41 students who have the same competence with the sample.
Data Analysis is tested by using t-test, to test the average difference of the two groups. The t-table is 2,000 at the 5% significance level and degrees of freedom (df) 78, the data calculation shows that t-value is 3,378, so t-value is higher than t-table ( 3,378 > 2,000). It means that the hypothesis of this research is accepted.
Based on the result of this research, it is concluded that using films gives positive effect toward students’ability in writing narrative text in the eleventh year at SMA N1 Bantarbolang in The Academic year 2011/2012. So the writer suggests for teaching of narrative text, the students should be stimulated by using interesting models such as stories in Films and Films can be one alternative technique for teachers in teaching a narrative text.
