An Analysis of Difficulties Faced by the Students in Learning Reading ( A Descriptive Research to the Second Grade Students of SMK Hasyim Asy’ari Bojong Tegal in Academic Year 2011/2012 )
Keywords : An Analysis of Difficulties Faced by the Student in Learning Reading.
This thesis mainly aims at determining students ability in reading text because the students often find difficulties in reading. This study is aimed at finding out difficulties in reading text such as identifying the type of genre and generic structure, difficulties finding main idea of paragraph, finding of the meaning of word/terms, and identifying the linguistics features, by the second year students of SMK Hasyim Asy’ari Bojong in academic year 2011/2012.
The population of this study was the second year students of SMK Hasyim Asy’ari Bojong in academic year 22011/2012. The total number of population was 40 students, out of which 40 students were chosen as the sample. Random sampling was used to determine the sample.
The writer used test as the instrument of this study. The form of the test was multiple choice consist of 30 test items to find of the students difficulties in reading text were classified and also counted to find out the most difficulties in reading text. The students difficulties were classified into five categories. Those were as identifying the type of genre and generic structure, difficulties finding main idea of paragraph, finding of the meaning of word/terms, and identifying the linguistics features.
Based on the result, the researcher knows that percentage of difficulties for each categories are identifying genre are 14,58% identifying generic structure are 30 % ,difficulties finding of main idea of paragraph are 8,75 %, finding of the meaning of word/terms are 37,5 %, identifying the linguistics features are 42,5 %. It is concluded that the dominant difficulties are in finding of the meaning of word/terms are and difficulties are identifying the linguistics features are. So, it is suggested that the eight grade students in SMK Hasyim Asy’ari Bojong should be given more exercise on identifying the linguistics features in their reading.
