The Effectiveness of Using Look and Say Method in the Teaching of Vocabulary for Students’ Vocabulary Mastery (An Experimental Study of Second Grade Students in MTs Muhammadiyah Wanasari Brebes, in the Academic year of 2011/2012)

The purpose of this research is to recognize whether the used of Look and Say Method gives positive effect toward students’s vocabulary achievement.
Based on the theoritical background and logical framework, the hypothesis of this research is proposed as follows: the using of look and say method gives positive effect toward students’s vocabulary achievement of the second grade students at MTs Muhammadiyah Wanasari Brebes academic year 2011/2012?
The population of this research is the second grade students of MTs Muhammadiyah Wanasari Brebes that consists of 80 students. The sample of this research is 60 students who are choosen by using random sampling technique. They are divided into two groups. Each group consists of 30 students. The first group is experimental group. It consists of the students who are taught by using look and say method and the second group is the control group, it consists of the students who are not taught by using look and say method.
The data of this research is gained by using multiple choice test which consists of 40 items, the analysis of this research is calculated by using t-test.
The result of this research shows that t-test is 3,054 with degree of freedom is 58 where as t-table at significant level 5% is 2,042. It is absolutely said that t-test is higher than t-table. Therefore, HI is Accepted and HO is Rejected.
The conclusion of this research is that the used of look and say method gives positive effect toward the students vocabulary achievement of the second grade students of MTs Muhammadiyah Wanasari Brebes in the academic year 2011/2012.
