The objective of this research is to describe the implementation of guided writing in writing recount text, to find out whether or not the use of guided writing in teaching writing gives positive effect to the students’ ability in writing recount text, to find out whether or not there is a significant difference between students who are taught by using guided writing and the students who aren’t taught by using guided writing.
Based on the review of related literature, the hypothesis of the research is proposed as follow: The use of guided writing in the teaching writing recount text will give positive effect to the students’ ability in writing recount text to the second year students of MTs NU 01 Tarub in academic year of 2011/2012.
This research is experimental which consists of two-group design. The design uses experiment group and control group. The population of this research is 185. The research uses random sampling technique to take the sample. The sample consists of 30 students as an experiment group and 30 students as control group. The researcher uses writing test as the type of instrument of the research. The writing test is used to measure the students’ ability in writing recount text. The writer used analytic scoring to score the students’ writing. For the result per aspect, the experimental group got the average 76,1, and the control group got the average 70,67. There are three aspects that the writer scored on the students’ recount text. Those are Content, Schematic Structure, and Language Use.
The result of statistical analysis in this research is tested by using t-test, for testing the differences between two groups. On the level of significance 5% and degree of freedom (df) 58, we can get the t-table 2,000 and t-test 3,711. It shows that t-test is higher than t-table (3,711 > 2,000). It means that there is a significant difference of students’ ability to write the recount text between those who are taught by using guided writing and those who aren’t taught by using guided writing.
The finding indicates that there is positive effect of using guided writing to the students’ ability in writing recount text to the second year students of MTs NU 01 Tarub in academic year of 2011/2012. Hence, it can be suggested that guided writing is one of the learning technique to teach writing which can help the students to increase their writing ability.
