The Effect of Using Presentation, Practice, Production (PPP) Technique in Teaching The Simple Present Tense to The Seventh Year Students of SMPN 3 Larangan Brebes

The objective of this research is to know whether using PPP Technique give positive and significant effect in teaching the simple present tense at SMPN 3 Larangan Brebes in academic year 2010/2011.
Based on theoretical background and frame of thinking, the hypothesis is formulated as follows : there is positive and significant effect of using PPP Technique in teaching the simple present tense to the seventh year students of SMPN 3 Larangan Brebes.
The population in this research is the first year students of SMPN 3 Larangan Brebes with the total number 320 students. To collect the data, the writer took 60 students from population as the sample by using cluster random sampling technique. The writer uses two groups design : one group was as an experimental group whereas the other was control group. Each group consist of 30 students. The experimental group was taught by using PPP technique, while the control group was taught by using other technique. Then both of them were given the same test.
The writer used one kind of test as the instrument of the research , it is multiple choices. The multiple choices test consist of 30 items which have four options. To know the validity and reliability of the instrument, the writer tried out the instrument by giving the test to 20 students who have the same competence with the sample of this research.
The data of this research is gained from the writing test was given to the sample of this research. To analyze the data, the writer used t-test which to know the difference between the two groups. Based on the result of the data analysis, t-test is 4,390 with the degree of freedom (df) 58 and the level of significant (α ) 5% and the t-table is 2,000. it means that t-test is higher than t-table ( 4,390>2,000 ). It can be concluded that the hypothesis of the research is accepted.
The conclusion of this research is using PPP technique give a positive and significant effect in teaching the simple present tense to the seventh year students of SMPN 3 Larangan Brebes in academic 2010/2011.
