The Analysis of Students’ Competence in Understanding Temporally Conjunction and Passive Voice in Recount Text(A Case Study at the Eighth Graders of SMP N 1 Kramat-Tegal Regency in the Academic Year of 2010/2011)

The aim of this research is to measure the students’ competence in understanding temporally conjunction and passive voice in recount text of the eighth graders of SMP N 1 Kramat Tegal.
The population in this research is the eighth grade students of SMP N I Kramat Tegal in the academic year 2010/2011. The number of population are 150 students, the samples are 30 students. The sample of this research is taken by using random sampling technique.
The data obtained from writing test, the types of the test is multiple choice test. The test consists of 30 numbers. Based on the data analysis, to know the students’ competence in grammatical, the writer classified into three categories assessment that are past tense, temporally conjunction, and passive voice.
The results of data analysis shows that the students’ competence in using past tense appropriate is 50 %, in temporally conjunction appropriate is 20 %, and passive voice appropriate is 30 %.
It can be concluded that teaching- learning grammatical especially temporally conjunction and passive voice, can help the students in making genre especially in recount text.Hopefully, the students can have better understanding of the temporally conjunction and passive voice in recount text, So that they are able to use them appropriately in a real communication.
