Improving English Vocabulary Through Repetition Activity in the First Year Student of SMP Negeri 3 Brebes in the Academic 2010 /2011 (Classroom Action Research)

The background of this research is based on the problem that the first year student of SMPN 3 Brebes have difficulties in memorizing the meaning of eachvocabulary and its classification. The objectives of this research are to find out that the student’s vocabulary mastery extents in improving English vocabulary through Repetition activity.
The subjects of this research are the first year student of SMPN 3 Brebes in the academic year 2010 – 2011 class 7 E. The writer divides the research into three cycles. They are : Implementation pre cycle, cycle 1 and cycle 2. Each cycle consists of Planning, Action, Observation, Reflection and which is conducted in about one month. In implementation pre cycle, the writer made a plan based on the data that most of all students got difficulties in memorizing new vocabularies.
The result of the research is shown through the test by minimum mastery criterion of 70. In pre cycle the number of students who get 70 or higher than 70 is7 students (19%). In cycle 1 through repetition activity using picture who student get 70 or higher than 70 is 15 students (42%) and in cycle 2 by using vocabulary Journal Board the number of students who get 70 or higher is 32 student ( 89%) . So, the vocabulary Journal Board is the best technique in repetition activity to improve students’ vocabulary.
Based on the result of research, the teacher are suggested to be more creative in implementing repetition activity in order to improve students’ English vocabulary.
