Improving Students’ Ability in Reading Comprehension through “Make a Match” Technique (A Classroom Action Research on the Fifth Grade Students of SD Negeri Krandon 1 Margadana Tegal in Academic Year 2010/2011)

The purpose of this study is to improve reading comprehension achievement of the fifth grade students of SD Negeri Krandon 1 Margadana Tegal in Academic Year 2010/2011 through learning model "Make a Match" techniques.
The study is conducted in the second semester in Academic Year 20010/2011. The subjects are the fifth grade students of SD Negeri Krandon 1 Margadana Tegal.
In this research, the writer conduct the Classroom Action Research by using cooperative learning “Make a Match” technique for three cycles. The first action, “Make a Match” technique applied by deviding students into two groups. they are question group, a group that consists of students who hold question card and the second group is answers group, a group that consists of students who hold answer card. After that students must find their patner. The second action is each student chooses the card randomly that contain question and answer that suitable with their cards. These activities take place until the third action cycle. Each of the cycle consists of planing, action, observation and reflection.
The results of research show that an average gain of students’ cognitive learning in cycle I is 69 with classical completeness 67%. Whereas the average of students achievement in cycle II is 74 with classical completeness 77%, 79 with the classical completeness 87% for cycle III. It means that learning model “Make a Match” technique is able to improve students’ reading comprehension on the fifth grade students of SD Negeri Krandon 1 Margadana Tegal.
Based on the elaboration above, it can be concluded that there is an improvement of students’ reading comprehension through the "Make a Match" technique
