THE EFFECT OF USING TEAM ASSISTED INDIVIDUALIZATION (T.A.I) TECHNIQUE TOWARD THE STUDENTS’ ENGLISH ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Study of the Second Year Students of SMP N 6 Brebes Regency in Academic Years 2010 / 2011)

Achievement
The objective of this research is to find out whether there is or there is no positive effect of using Team Assisted Individualization (T.A.I) technique toward the students’ English achievement of the second year students of SMP N 6 Brebes Regency.
The research was conducted at SMP N 6 Brebes Regency of the second year students, in academic year 2010 / 2011.This research is experimental. The writer uses two group designs.
The population of this research is all of the second year students of SMP N 6 Brebes Regency. The number of population is 160 students. Accordingly, the total samples that used in this study were 60 students taken from the population by applying random sampling technique. The sample divided into 2 groups they are: 30 students for the first group as experiment group (students who are taught by using Team Assisted Individualization (T.A.I) technique) and 30 students for the second group as control (students who are not taught by using Team Assisted Individualization (T.A.I) technique). For the comparison in this research, the writer uses the achievement test to test the experiment group and the control group.
The t-test is used to find out the effect of using Team Assisted Individualization (T.A.I) technique toward the students’ English achievement. The result of mean score shows that the t-test = 4,67 is higher than t-table = 1,645, at significance level 5%. It indicates that the hypothesis of the research is accepted.
The conclusion is based on the research findings: There is positive effect of using Team Assisted Individualization (T.A.I) technique toward the students’ English achievement of the second year students of SMP N 6 Brebes Regency. It is supported by the value of the t-test is higher than t-table (4,67 > 1,645).
From the result of verification above, it is expected that the teacher can improve their professionalism in teaching English by using Team Assisted Individualization (T.A.I) technique.
