THE EFFECT OF SRSD (SELF-REGULATED STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT) TOWARD WRITING SKILL TO THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP N 1 WARUREJA, KABUPATEN TEGAL. (An Experimental Study in SMP N 1 Warureja, Kabupaten Tegal. Academic Year 2010/2011)

Writing is one of device that plays an important role to improve students’ general skill, such as reading, speaking, and listening. However, writing is not an easy task, it is complex and demanding, many students struggle with this process. Therefore, teachers have to be able to choose the best method, or tchnique to be implemented in writing teaching learning process in order to solve their students’ problem. One of the methods that can be used is Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD) because it is an instructional approach for helping students choose and then learn specific strategies for planning, drafting, and revising text by modeled students the way that the strategy should be used and support them while they practice using it.
Based on the review of related theory and logical framework, the hypothesis of the research formulates as follows: there is positive effect of SRSD toward writing skill to the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Warureja, Kabupaten Tegal.
The population of this research is all the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Warurejo. Academic year 2010/2011. The number is 328 students. They are divided into 9 classes. 60 students from two classes are chosen as the sample of this research by using cluster random sampling technique. They are 30 students from class VIII A as the experimental group, a group which consists of students who are taught by using SRSD and 30 students from class VIII B as control group, a group which consists of students who are taught by using Cooperative Language Learning.
This research uses writing test as the instrument to collect data, the data is then analyzed by using t – test formula. Based on Data Analysis, the value of t – ratio (to) is 5,789 With Degree of freedom (dk) = 30 + 30 – 2 = 58, and Significant Degree (α) = 0.05 can be found the value of t – table (t1) = 2,042, it means that t – ratio is higher than t – table (5,789 > 2,042). Hence hypothesis of the research: there is positive effect of SRSD toward writing skill to the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Warurejo Kabupaten Tegal is ACCEPTED.
It proves that there is positive effect of SRSD toward writing skill to the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Warurejo.
It is Suggested for teacher to considers SRSD as one of the tools that can be used to solve their students’difficulties in writing process therefore they can improving students’ writing achievement.
