THE EFFECT OF DESUGGESTOPEDIA TOWARD STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN VOCABULARY (An Experimental Research to the Fourth Grade Students of SD N Lengkong 01 and SD N Lengkong 02, Brebes Regency in Academic Year of 2010/2011)

The objective of this research is to know the differences between the students who are taught with Desuggestopedia Method (Experimental Group) and the students who are taught with Grammar Translation Method (Control Group) in teaching English vocabulary for the fourth grade students’ at SD Negeri Lengkong 01 (Experimental Group) and SD Negeri Lengkong 02 (Control Group).
Based on the theory of thinking, the research hypothesis is proposed as follows: The use of Desuggestopedia Method gives more positive effect in teaching English vocabulary to the students at IV grade in Elementary School.
Population of this research is all the students of SD N Lengkong 01 and 02 Brebes Regency, the population of students are 475 students. The writer takes 60 students. The sample consists of 2 groups; each group consists of 30 students and 30 students for Instrument Test. The first group is the students who are taught by using Desuggestopedia Method and the second group is the students who are taught by using Grammar Translation Method.
The writer uses vocabulary test as the instrument research. The test needs 2 x 35 minutes to do. The type of the test is multiple choice items with 4 options A, B, C; D. To know the reliability and validity of the instrument, the writer had tried it to 30 students who have the same competence with the research sample.
The research data is gained from the English test that has been given to research respondents during second semester. Validity of the research computed by using r-table. The writer found that r-table with N=30 then the level of significant 5%, is 0,361, so r-test is higher than of the r-table (0,510 > 0,361). It can be said that the test is valid. Data analysis computed by using t-test formula. Based on the computation data analysis, t-ratio is 3,913. On the level of significant 5%, found t-table 2,000. It means that t-ratio is higher than t-table (3,193 > 2,000). It shows that there is a significant the students who are taught by using Desuggestopedia Method.
Desuggestopedia method is a teaching method that not only can be applied in teaching vocabulary, but also in the other material. For example in the teaching grammar, reading, writing, listening, and speaking. By this method the teacher easy to deliver the material in teaching English vocabulary. And by this method the students interesting and enjoyful in studying English vocabulary of the fourth grade student’s of SD Negeri Lengkong 01 Brebes Regency in Academic year of 2010/2011.
