The Effect of Using Participative Teaching and Learning Technique Toward the Students Reading Ability ( An experimental study of the fifth grade students of SD Negeri Demangharjo 03 Tegal Regency in Academic year 2012/2013 )

The purpose of this research is to gain information about the effect of using participative teaching and learning technique toward the students reading ability ( An experimental study of the fifth grade students of SD Negeri Demangharjo 03 Tegal regency in academic year 2012/2013 ).
Based on the theoretical background and logical framework, the hypothesis of this research is “the use of participative teaching and learning technique gives positive effect towards the students’ reading ability of the fifth grade students at SD Negeri Demangharjo 03 Tegal”. In other word, the students who are taught by using participative teaching and learning technique have reading ability better than students who are taught without using participative teaching and learning technique.
The population of this research is the first year students at SD Negeri Demangharjo 03 Tegal. The number of population is 306 students. The writer uses cluster random sampling technique to choose the sample of the study. The number of sample is 60 students. The sample consists of two groups; each group consists of 30 students. Group I is experimental group, it consists of the students who are taught by using participative teaching and learning technique. Group II is control group, it consists of the students who are not taught by using participative teaching and learning technique.
The research instrument used in this research is multiple choice test which consists of 30 items and each item has four options. To know the validity and the reliability of the instrument, the writer tries out the instrument by giving test to 30 students having the same competence with the sample of the study.
The data is analysed by using t-test formula. It shows that t-test result is 3,721, with degree freedom is 58 and the level of significance (α) 5% = 1,645. it is absolutely said that t-test is higher than t-table (3,721>1,645), because of the t-test is higher than t-table, so that hypothesis of the research is accepted.
From the result of data analysis, the writer can conclude that the use of participative teaching and learning technique gives positive effect on Reading of the fifth grade students of SD Negeri Demangharjo 03 Tegal regency in academic year 2012/2013.
