THE INFLUENCE OF GIVING INTENSIVE TEACHING OF ENGLISH TENSES TOWARD STUDENTS ABILITY IN WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT (An Experimental Study of the Eight Grade Students of SMP 19 Tegal In Academic Year 2012/2013)

The objective of this research is to find out whether there is a different writing ability between the students who are taught with “English Tenses” (Experimental Group) and the students who are not taught with “English Tenses” (Control Group) in teaching English writing to the eight grade students at SMP 19 Tegal.
Based on review of related literature and logical framework, the hypothesis of the research is proposed as follows: giving intensive teaching of English Tenses gives positive effect on English writing ability of the eight grade students of Junior High School.
The population of this research is the eight grade students of SMP 19 Tegal, the population of students are 120 students. The writer uses cluster random sampling technique to choose the sample of the study. The number of the samples is 60 students. The sample consists of two groups. The Experimental group and Control group, and each group contain 30 students. The first group is the students who are taught by giving intensive teaching of English Tenses and the second group is the students who are not taught by giving intensive teaching of English Tenses.
The writer uses post test as the instrument of the research. The test needs 80 minutes to do. the type of the test an essay to make writing descriptive text.
The data of the research are gained from the result of writing test done by the samples of the research. The data analysis is tested by using t-test. Based on the result of data analysis t-test is 5,726 on the level of significance 5% and the degree of freedom (df) is 58 the t-table is 2,000.
It shows that t-test is higher than t-table (5.726 > 2,000). It can be concluded that there is significant difference in Writing Ability between the Students who are taught by giving intensive teaching of English Tenses and those who are not at the Eight Grade of SMP 19 Tegal in Academic Year 2011/2012.
Based on the result of the study, the writer proposes some suggestions that the English teacher should give motivation to the students and should have creativity to teach the students because there are many media of teaching to be applied in the class. Thus, the situation of the teaching and learning English will be really enjoyable to the students and the teacher.
