The Effect of Using POINT technique toward Students’ Reading Achievement (an experimental study on the first grade students of SMA N 5 Tegal in the academic years of 2012-2013)

The objective of this research is to find out whether or not the implementation of the POINT technique gives positive effect towards the first grade students’ reading achievement at SMA 5 Tegal in the academic year 2012/2013.
Based on the review of related theories and the logical framework, the hypothesis of this research is: “There is a positive effect of using POINT technique Toward the Reading Achievement of the First Grade Students of SMA N 5 Tegal in Academic Year 2012/2013”.
The population of this research is all of the first grade students of SMA N 5 Tegal in the academic years of 2012/2013 which consists of 7 classes for about 274 students. To select the sample, the writer uses Random Sampling technique. The writer only need 60 students for the sample. The writer uses 30 students as an experiment group and 30 students as control group. To get the data, the writer uses a multiple choice test. To find out the validity and reliability of the test instrument the writer gives the test to 30 students as a try-out group who have the same ability as the sample of the research.
The Validity of the research was obtainedly using the formula r-table N=30 on the significant level of 5%=0,361. The data of the research is calculated by t-test. Based on the data analysis obtained, the ttest is 5,179. On the significant level 5%, ttable is 2,000. This means that ttest is higher than ttable (5,179>2,000). This research shows that the implementation of POINT technique gives positive effect to the students’ reading achievement in the first grade of SMA N 5 Tegal in the academic year of 2012-2013.
