The Effect of ARIAS (Assurance, Relevance, Interest Assessment and Satisfaction) Learning Model toward Students’ English Mastery (An Experimental Study of the Eight Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1 Kedungbanteng Tegal Regency in Academic Year of 2012/2013).

The objective of this research is to find out whether or not there is positive effect of ARIAS (Assurance, Relevance, Interest Assessment and Satisfaction) Learning Model toward Students’ English Mastery of the Eight Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1 Kedungbanteng Tegal Regency in Academic Year of 2012/2013.
Based on the review of related literatures and logical framework, the hypothesis of the research is: there will be a significant difference between experiment group which is taught using ARIAS learning model and control group which is taught without using ARIAS learning model.
The population of this research is the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Kedungbanteng, Tegal Regency which consists of 312 students which are divided into eight classes. The sample in this research is taken by using cluster random sampling technique. The writer takes two groups which consist of 30 students for each group as the sample of the research. The first group is experiment group consisting of the students who are taught by using ARIAS learning model and the second group is control group consisting of the students who are taught without using ARIAS learning model.
To get data, the writer uses a test as the instrument of the research. The type of the test is written test in the form of multiple-choice test with four options A, B, C, and D. Knowing the validity and reliability of the instrument, the writer gives try out to 30 other students who have the same competence and characteristic with the sample of this research. After the writer has analysed the result of try out test using external validity and split half reliability, the writer finds out that the instrument test is valid and reliable. The writer took 30 test items of English test to two groups to get the data of this research.
The data of this research is found by using t-test formula. Based on the result of the data analysed, the writer gets t-test 3,21 on the degree of freedom (df) 58 and the level of significant 5%, the writer get t table 1,645. It shows that t test is higher than t table (3,21>1,645). It means that the hypothesis of this research (H1) is accepted and H0 is refused. The writer concludes that “ARIAS learning model gives positive effect toward students’ English mastery of 8th Grade Students of Junior High School in SMP Negeri 1 Kedungbanteng Tegal Regency in Academic Year of 2012/2013.
