Key word : The SAVI Method, Speaking Ability
The objective of this thesis is to find out whether or not the Application of SAVI method in the teaching speaking gives positive effect on students’ speaking ability. The SAVI method primarily is a cognitive, affective and pshycomotoric enrichment approach that teach students to think and do more precisely and deeply about what they learned.
Based on the theoretical background, the research hypothesis is drawn as follows: There is a positive effect to the students’ speaking ability who are taught by The Application of The SAVI Method Toward Students’ Speaking Ability of the tenth grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah Slawi in Academic Year 2012/2013.
This is experimental research. In conducting the research, the writer uses two groups design. Population of this research is students of the tenth grade students SMK Muhammadiyah Slawi which is totally 208 students. The writer uses cluster random sampling technique to take the sample of research. The total number of the sample is 48 students. From 48 samples of students, 24 students are taken as experiment group who are taught by giving the note game, whereas 24 others are taken as control group without implementing the SAVI method.
To check the effect of students speaking ability, the writer uses a test as the instrument of the research. The type of the test is dialog comprehension. Test is used to know whether or not there is improvement in the students’ speaking ability after they are taught by implementing the SAVI method.
The description of the data obtained between group 1 (experiment group) with a mean value (79,66) , and group 2 (control group with a mean value (71,25) average. Afterwards, to analyze the data the writer uses t-test to know the differences between two group. From the data, the score of the t-table at 5% level of significance and the degree of freedom (df) 46 is 2.021, while the t-ratio is 3,428. So, t-ratio (t0) is higher than t-table (3,428>2,021). According to this calculation, hypothesis null is rejected, and hypothesis alternative is accepted. It means, that is a positive effect to the students speaking ability who taught by The Application of The SAVI Method Toward Students’ Speaking Ability of the tenth grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah Slawi in Academic Year 2012/2013.
