The Implementation of Think-Pair-Share (TPS) by Using Media Based on Multimedia to Improve the Students’ English Achievement (A Classroom Action Research at the Grade VII E of SMP Negeri 1 Bantarbolang Pemalang in the Academic Year of 2011/ 2012)

This study is aimed to identify the improvement of students’ English achievement after the implementation of Think-Pair-Share (TPS) by using media based on multimedia in English subject with the topic of Descriptive Text at the grade VII E of SMP Negeri 1 Bantarbolang Pemalang in the Academic Year of 2011/2012.
This study is a classroom action research which is conducted in three cycles. Each cycle consists of four phases, namely: (1) planning, (2) implementing, (3) observing and evaluating, and (4) reflecting. The research subject is the students of grade VII E of SMP Negeri 1 Bantarbolang Pemalang in the academic year of 2011/2012 with the student total number is 40 students which consists of 20 male students and 20 female students. The data collection methods used in this study, are observation and tests. The data of observation result to the students’ behavior during joining the learning process is analyzed by using qualitative descriptive technique; meanwhile the data of students’ English achievement obtained from method of tests is analyzed by using quantitative descriptive technique.
The result of this study showed that there is an improvement of the English achievement after the implementation of Think-Pair-Share (TPS) by using media based on multimedia with the classically students’ completeness score in cycle I 39% with the mean score of 63, 53. In cycle II the classically students’ completeness score is 53% with the mean score of 71, 08 and in cycle III the classically students’ completeness score is 88% with the mean score 80, 09. It means that there is an improvement of students’ English achievement after the implementation of Think-Pair-Share (TPS) by using media based on multimedia from cycle I to cycle II with the amount of 14% and from cycle II to cycle III with the amount of 35%. Based on the data analyses and the discussion concluded that the cooperative learning model type of Think-Pair-Share (TPS) by using media based on multimedia is very effective to be used to improve the English achievement of the students of grade VII E of SMP Negeri 1 Bantarbolang Pemalang in the academic year of 2011/2012.
