The Effect of Using Parallel Writing Technique On Students’ Achievement in Writing Descriptive Text” (An Experimental Study to the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 4 Pemalang in the Academic Year 2012/2013)

The purpose of this thesis is to find out whether or not parallel writing technique gives positive effect on the students’ achievement in writing descriptive text, and to find out whether there is any significant difference between students who were taught using parallel writing technique and those who were not taught using parallel writing technique. The subjects of this research were the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Pemalang. The hypothesis of this research is as follows: “Parallel writing technique gives positive effect to improve students’ achievement in writing descriptive text at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Pemalang in the academic year 2012/2013”.
This research used two groups design. They are experimental group and control group. The number of population is 280 students. To take the samples, the writer used cluster random sampling technique. The writer took two classes to be the samples of the research and each group contains 20 students.
The result of data analysis calculation in this research is that the signinficant level of 5% and 38 degrees of freedom, the comparison showed that the t-test is higher than t-table (7,632 > 2,02). Therefore, the hypothesis is accepted.
According to the result, it can be concluded that the implementation of parallel writing technique gives positive effect towards students’ achievement in writing descriptive text in the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Pemalang in academic year 2012/2013. There are some suggestions for the teacher to improve students’ achievement in writing descriptive text by implementing parallel writing technique. For instance, the teacher should be able to manage the time, has creativity in managing the class, should be able to manage the class and invite the student to build an effective class. Besides, the teacher should has good ability in mastering English subject.
