The Effect of Using “Picture Games” on Students` Achievement in Writing Descriptive Text To The Second Grade Of SMP Negeri 4 Adiwerna Tegal In Academic Year 2012/2013
Keyword: Picture Games, Students` Writing Achievement, the Second Grade of Junior High School.
The objective of this research is to find at the differences between the students who are taught using “Picture Games” (Experimental Group) and the students who are not taught using “Picture Games” (Control Group) in teaching English writing descriptive text for the second grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Aiwerna Tegal.
Based ontheoretical background and logical framework, the hypothesis of the research is proposed as follows: The use of Using Picture Gamesgives positive effect in English writing achievement of the students at second grade ofJunior High School.
Population of this research is the second grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Adiwerna Tegal, the population of students are 213 students. The writer uses cluster sampling technique to choose the sample of the study. The number of the samples is 60 students. The sample consists of two groups. The Experimental group and Control group, and each group contain 30 students. The first group is the students who are taught by using Picture Gamesand the second group is the students who are not taught by using Picture Games.
The writer uses post test as the instrument research. The test needs 2 x 40 minutes to do. The type of the test is essay with a question.
The data of the research are gained from the result of writing test done by the samples of the research. The data analysis is tested by using t-test. Based on the result of data analysis t-testis 3,8639 on the level of significance 5% and the degree of freedom (df) is 58 the t-table is 1,67.
It shows that t-testis higher than t-table (3,8639> 1,67). It can be concluded that there is significant difference in Writing Achievement between the Students who are taught by using Picture Games and those who are not at the Second Grade of SMP Negeri 4 Adiwerna Tegal in Academic Year 2012/2013.
Based on the result of the study, the writer proposes some suggestions that the English teacher should give motivation to the students and should have creativity to teach the students because there are many media of teaching to be applied to the class. Thus the situation of the teaching and learning English is really enjoyed to the students and the teacher.
