Based on the review of related literatures and logical framework, the hypothesis of the research is: there will be a significant difference between experiment group which is taught using idea spurring questions technique in guided writing and control group which is taught using free writing.
This research is experimental research with two-group design. The writer uses experiment and control group. The population of this research is the eight grade students of SMP N 1 Balapulang, Tegal Regency which consists of 307 students which are divided into eight classes. The sample in this research is taken by using cluster random sampling technique. The writer took two groups consist of 30 students for each group as the sample of the research. The first group is experiment group consisting of the students who are taught by using idea spurring questions technique in guided writing and the second group is control group consisting of the students who are taught by using free writing.
The writer uses a test as the instrument of the research to get data. The type of the test is written test in the form of objective exactly multiple-choice with four alternatives A, B, C, and D. The writer gave try out to 20 other students that do not belong to the sample of the research but they have the same competence and characteristic with the sample of this research in order to know the validity and reliability of the instrument. After the writer gave try out instrument, the writer founds out 31 test items is valid by using internal validity. The writer takes 30 test items of writing test to two groups to get the data of this research.
The data of this research is analyzed by using t-test formula. Based on the result of the data analysed, the writer gets t-test 3,482. In addition, the writer gets t-table is 1,645 on the degree of freedom (df) 58 and the level of significant 5%. It shows that t test is higher than t table (3,482>1,645). It means that the hypothesis of this research (H1) is accepted and H0 is refused. The writer concludes that “the application of idea spurring questions technique gives positive effect toward writing achievement of 8th Grade Students of Junior High School in SMP Negeri 1 Balapulang Tegal Regency in Academic Year 2012/2013).
