The Effect of Using Chart Classification towards the Students’ Vocabulary Achievement” (An Experimental Research of the Third Grade Students of SD Negeri 5 Taman

The objective of this research is to find out whether there is a significant difference of students’ vocabulary achievement between students who are taught by using chart classification and students who are taught without using chart classification of the third grade students of SD Negeri 5 Taman, Pemalang in the second semester.
According to the related theory, the hypothesis of this research is: “there is a significant difference of students’ vocabulary achievement between students who are taught by using chart classification and students who are taught without using chart classification of the third grade students of SD Negeri 5 Taman, Pemalang.”
The population of this research is the third grade students of SD Negeri 5 Taman, Pemalang in the Academic Year of 2012/2013, which consists of 70 students which is divided into two classes.
The sample of this research consists of 40 students, which are taken from the population by using cluster random sampling technique. The sample is divided into two groups. The experiment group is taught by using chart classification and the control group is taught without using chart classification. Each group contains 20 students. The writer used test as the instrument of the research. It consists of 25 items of multiple choices with four options. The test needs thirty minutes to do. To know the validity and the reliability of the instrument, the writer had tried out by giving a test to 20 students having the same competence with the sample of the research.
Data analysis in this research is tested by using t-test method, to determine whether there is a significant difference in the result of the two groups. The research result shows that on degree of significance of 5% there is a significant difference of students’ vocabulary achievement between students who are taught by using chart classification and the students who are taught without using chart classification. Based on the data analysis it shows that t-test is 4,21 and t-table is 2,042 at the significant level 5 % and degree of freedom 38, t-data is higher than t-table (4,21 > 2,042).it means that the research hypothesis is accepted.
The conclusion of the research is that there is a significant difference of students’ vocabulary achievement between students who are taught by using chart classification and students who are taught without using chart classification of the fourth grade students of SD Negeri 5 Taman, Pemalang in the Academic Year 2012/2013
