The Effectiveness of Applying Peer Editing Technique in the Teaching of Writing Procedure text for First Grade Students of Secondary School ( An Experimental Research in SMPN 17 Tegal in The Academic Year 2012/2013 )

The objevtive of this thesis is to find out the effectiveness of using Peer Editing Technique to improve the students ability in writing Procedure text. Peer Editing Techcnique is one of the collabortive learning techniques that is good for improving students writing ability which the students can work in pairs.
The research hypothesis is the use Peer Editing technique gives positive effect toward students’ ability in writing Procedure text. Peer Editing Technique is applied to the seventh grade students of SMPN 17 Tegal in the Academic Year 2012/2013.
In this research, the population is all of seventh grade students in SMPN 17 Tegal, which is totally 180 students. The writer uses cluster random sampling with two group design (experiment group and control group). The total of sample is 60 students, 30 students is as experiment group and 30 students is as control group. The experiment group is the group of students who are taught by using Peer Editing Technique. The control group is the group of students who are taught without using Peer Editing Technique. After teaching for seven meetings, the writer gives a writing test to experiment group and control group.
The writer analysis data by using t-test, score of t-test is 5,152. While score of t-table at 5% level significance and on the degree of 58 is 1,645. Thus, t-test is higher than t-table (5,152 > 1,645). According to result of data, hypothesis t-test is rejected, and hypothesis t-table is accepted. It means there is a possitive effect towars students ability in writing Procedure text between students who are taught by using Peer Editing technique and those who are not taught by using Peer Editing Technique at the seventh grade students of SMPN 17 Tegal. According to the analysis, Peer Editing Technique gives possitive effect towards students ability in writing Procedure text. Then, the writer suggest to the English teachers use Peer Editing Technique to improve students writing ability.
