The Effect of Using Guided Questions towards Students’ Ability in Writing Deccriptive text (An Experimental Research at the First Grade Students of SMA N 5 Tegal Academic Year of 2012/1013)
Key Words: Guided Questions, Writing Descriptive Text.
The objectives of this research are to find out whether the use of guided
questions gives positive effect to writing descriptive text and to find out whether
there is significant difference on the writing descriptive text between the students
who are taught by using guided questions and those who are not taught by using
guided questions.
The population of this research is the whole of the First Grade Students of
SMA N 5 Tegal in the academic year of 2012/2013. The total of the population is
240 students. By using cluster random sampling and random sampling, the writer
takes two classes to be samples of the research. Firstly, the writer uses random
sampling to take two classes. Then, the writer uses random sampling to get 30
students each class. Those two classes are one class as experimental group and the
other as the control group.
The writer uses experimental research as the technique. The writer uses a
writing test as the instrument of the research. The type of the test is an essay test.
From an essay test, the students are asked to make a paragraph based on guided
questions.
Data analysis of this research is tested by using t-test. Based on the result
with the degree of freedom (df) 58 on the level significant of 5% and the t-table is
1,67, it shows that t - ratio is higher than t-table (3,96>1,67). It means that the null
hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the hypothesis of the research (H1) is accepted.
The conclusion of this research is guided questions gives positive effect on
the writing descriptive text of the First Grade Students of SMA N 5 Tegal in the
academic year of 2012/2013.
