THE EFFECT OF USING RANDOM TEXT STRATEGY TOWARDS THE STUDENTS’ READING ACHIEVEMENT ( An Experimental Study on the First Grade Students of SMK Negeri 1 Tegal in the Academic Year 2012/2013 )

The objective of this research is to find out the effect of using random text strategy toward the students’ reading achievement (An Experimental Study on the First Grade Students of SMK Negeri 1 Tegal in the Academic Year 2012/2013)
The research is done by classifying sample into two groups. They are the Experiment group and Control group. Each group consisting of 30 students. The sample is taken by using random sampling technique. They are divided into two groups, group one is experiment group consists of students who are taught by using random text strategy and group two is control consisting of students who are taught without using random text strategy.
The population is given a test containing 60 Multiple choice items. The writer uses multiple choice as the instrument to know the validity and reability of the instrument. The writer gives a try out for students having the same competence with the sample.
Data analysis of this research is tested by using t-test. Based on the result with the degree of freedom (df) 58 on the level significant of 5% t-table is 2.015, it shows that t-ratio is higher than t-table (5.481 > 2.015). It means that there is significant difference of the reading achievement between students who are taught by using random text strategy and the students who are taught without using random text strategy.
The conclusion of this research is using random text strategy gives positive effect on the reading achievement of the first grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Tegal in academic year of 2012/2013.
