THE EFFECT OF GIVING INTENSIVE READING ENGLISH TEXTS TOWARD THE FIRST YEAR OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Study of SMP Negeri 2 Petarukan Pemalang in The Academic Year of 2012/2013)

The objective of this study is to find outthe effect of givingintensive reading english texts toward the first year of Junior High School students’ vocabulary achievement of SMP Negeri 2 PetarukanPemalang in academic year of 2012/2013.
The research is done by classifying sample into two groups design. They are the Experiment group and Control group. Each group consists of 30 students. The sample is taken by using cluster random sampling technique. They are divided into two groups, group one is experiment group consists of students who are taught by giving Intensive reading english texts and group two is control group consists of students who are taught without giving Intensive reading english texts.
The population is given a test containing 30 multiple choice items. The writer used vocabulary test as the instrument to collect data test consisted of 30 items, the form of the test was multiple choice with four options; A, B, C, and D for each item. The students did it in 60 minutes. Before the instrument items were to collect the data, the writer tried out test to get the validity and reliability. To know the validity and reliability of the instrument, first the instrument is tested to the first year students (30 students) who have similar characteristic with sample of the research.
Data analysis of this research is tested by using t – test. Based on the result with degree offreedom (df) 58 on the level significant of 5% t-table is 1.645, It shows that the t- ratio is higher than t – table ( 5.901> 1.645 ). It means that there is significant difference of the vocabulary achievement between students who are taught by giving intensive reading english texts and the students who are taught without giving intensive reading english texts.
The conclusion of this research is giving intensive readingenglish texts gives positive effect towards the first year students’s vocabulary achievement of SMP Negeri 2 Petarukan Pemalang in academic year of 2012/2013.
The writer suggests that the teachers need to use intensive reading english texts in teaching vocabulary because intensive reading english texts is easy to be implemented. It also can be used to overcome some barries of the students who think that vocabulary is difficult to be learned.
