THE USE OF THINKQUEST-PROJECT BASED LEARNING METHOD IN TEACHING WRITING PROCEDURAL TEXTS (An Experimental Study of Eleventh Graders of SMK Texmaco Pemalang in the Academic Year of 2012/2013)

The objective of this research is to find out whether the use of ThinkQuest- Project based learning method gives positive effect in teaching writing procedural text of the eleventh graders of Vocational High School at SMK Texmaco Pemalang in the academic year of 2012/2013.
The research use Quantitative approach and type of Quasi- experiments design. The population of this research is 320 students. The number of the sample of this research is 80 students. The samples are taken by using non-randomized sampling technique or non- equivalent pre- test and post- test group. The sample is divided into two groups. The first group is experimental group and the second group is control group. Each group consists of 40 students.
The writer uses writing test as the instrument of the research. The type of the test is essay writing form which consist of 150 words in procedure text. To know the validity and reliability of the test instrument, the writer used face, content and construct validity. Face validity, the test had been consulted to advisor and English teacher of the school, whereas the content and construct validity the writer had matched the instrument of the test between the recent curriculum that is used and the topic that available. The writer also make the question based on the lesson plan and specific instructional objective about how to write procedure text. The writer held the pre- test and post- test to collect data.
Data analysis of this research is tested by using t-test and were analyzed using SPSS 16.0 for windows. Based on the result with the degree of freedom (df) 78 and the level of significance α = 5% (0.05)= 1.990, t- test is 15.334. It shows that t-test is higher than t-table (15.334 > 1.990). It means that there is significant difference between the students who are taught by using ThinkQuest- Project based learning method and the students who are taught without using ThinkQuest- Project based learning.
