THE EFFECT OF USING AFFINITY GROUPING TECHNIQUE TOWARDS STUDENTS’ WRITING ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Research to the First Graders of SMA PGRI 1 TAMAN in the Academic Year of 2012 / 2013)
Key words: Affinity Grouping Technique, Students’ Writing Achievement.
The aim of this research is to describe the implementation of Affinity Grouping Technique and to find out whether there is any significant difference between the students who are taught by using Affinity Grouping Technique and the students who are not taught by using Affinity Grouping Technique in writing News Item text.
Based on review of related literature and frame of thinking, the hypothesis of the research is proposed as follows: There is a significant difference of students’ writing achievement in news item text between the students who are taught by using Affinity Grouping Technique and the students who are not taught by using Affinity Grouping Technique in writing News Item text.
This research is an experimental research by using two-group designs. The population of this research is all of the first grade students of SMA PGRI 1 TAMAN in the academic year of 2012/2013. The total number of the population is 245 students. The writer uses cluster random sampling technique to choose the sample of the research. The samples consist of two groups; the experimental group (X1) and control group (X4). The number of the samples is 60 students. The writer uses posttest as the instrument of research. It takes 60 minutes to do the test. The type of the test is writing test. To find out validity of the instrument, the writer used fece validity and content validity.
Based on the data analysis, the t-test is 3,862 with the degree freedom 58 of the significance level of 5%, and the t-table is 1,645. The computation shows that t-test is higher than t-table (3,862 > 1,645). It means that hypothesis of the research is accepted.
In conclusion, there is a significant difference of students’ writing achievement in news item text between the students who are taught by using Affinity Grouping Technique and the students who are not taught by using Affinity Grouping Technique. As a result, this thesis is recommended for educational practitioners such as teachers, students, and other researchers.
