THE EFFECT OF USING COLD CALL TECHNIQUE TOWARD THE STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Study at the Seventh Grade of SMP N 1 Bodeh in the Academic Year of 2012/2013)

The objectives of this research are to identify whether are not the use of cold call technique gives positive effect toward students’ vocabulary achievement and to see the significant difference of the students who are taught using cold call technique and who are not taught using cold call technique on the seventh grade of SMP N 1 Bodeh in the academic year of 2012/2013.
The population of this research is the seventh grade of SMP N 1 Bodeh in the Academic Year of 2012/2013 which consists of 260 students. The writer uses cluster random sampling as the technique of taking sample. From the whole population, the writer takes 60 students as a sample and devided into two groups. The first group is the experimental group consisting of students who are taught by using cold call technique and the second group is the control group which consists of the students who are not taught by using cold call technique.
In the collecting data, the writer uses instrument test. The kinds of the instrument are multiple choice vocabulary test which consists of 30 items and questionnaire which consists of 20 items.
The data is analyzed by using t-test formula. Based on the result of data analysis shows that t-test is 5,456 with degree of freedom (df) 58 and the level of significant of 5%, r-table is 1,645, it is absolutely said that t-test is higher that t-table (5,456 > 1,645), because of t-test is higher than t-table so that the null hhypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted.
From the data analysis above, the writer can conclude that the use of Cold Call technique gives positive effect toward students’ vocabulary achievement for the seventh grade of SMP N 1 Bodeh in the Academic Year of 2012/2013.
