THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SENSITIZING ON STUDENTS’ READING ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Study to the Seventh Grade of SMP N 2 MOGA in the Academic Year 2012 / 2013)

Reading is important activity in any language class. Though several attempts have been done by English teachers but the results do not meet what is being expected. Sensitizing is a technique in reading comprehension which its aim is to provide exercises that will develop the strategies that students need to cope with unfamiliar words and complex or apparently obscure sentences.
The researcher takes an experimental research which is held in the Seventh grade of SMP N 2 Moga in the second semester of academic year 2012/2013. The researcher takes 236 students as a population. To get the sample of data, the researcher takes sample by simple random sampling. The randomization is done to choose the experimental and control class. VII A is chosen as experimental class which has 38 students and VII E is chosen as control class which has 38 students.
The experimental group is taught by Sensitizing Technique and the control group is taught by Lecture technique. The objective of this research is to know whether the application of Sensitizing Technique is effective on students’ reading achievement or not. The research used an objective test in multiple choice forms which is given to the students in the end of the research as the research instrument. The test has been tried out before it is given to the research subject.
Based on the conclusion of data analysis it is stated that the value of to is higher than tt ,that is 6.642 > 2.00, it means that null hypothesis (HO) of the research is refused and the research hypothesis (HI) is accepted. So, the conclusion of the research is that the application of sensitizing technique is effective on students’ reading achievement of the seventh grade students of SMP N 2 Moga in academic year 2012/2013. The students who are taught by using Sensitizing Technique get better English reading comprehension than the students who are taught by using lecture technique. So, Sensitizing Technique is more effective than the lecture technique and it can be used as the English learning technique, especially to improve the students’ English reading achievement.
