THE EFFECT OF USING PEER TUTORING TECHNIQUE TOWARDS THE STUDENTS’ READING ABILITY (An Experimental Study of Second Grade at MTs AL MUBAAROK Tanjung in the Academic Year of 2013/2014)

The objective of this research is to find out the effect of using peer tutoring technique on the students’ reading ability. The writer uses experimental method for this research. The writer intends to use two-group design. To check the improvement of reading ability, the writer applies a post-test. Post-test is used to find out whether or not there is a positive effect of peer tutoring technique towards the students’ reading ability.
The population of this research is the second grades students of MTs AL MUBAAROK Tanjung which consists of 115 students. The writer uses cluster random sampling technique to choose the samples of the research. The samples of this study are 60 students. Since the writer uses two-group design, there is 30 students in experimental group and 30 students in control group.
Data analysis of this research is tested by using independent sample t-test. Based on the result with the degree of freedom (df) 58 on the level significant of 5% t-table is 2,000. It shows that t-ratio is higher than t-table (2,789>2,000). It means that there is significant difference of the reading ability between the students who are taught by using peer tutoring technique and the students who are taught without using peer tutoring technique.
The conclusion of this research is that using peer tutoring technique gives positive effect on the students’ reading ability at the second grade students of MTs AL MUBAAROK Tanjung in the Academic Year 2013/2014.
