THE EFFECT OF USING STUDENT FACILITATOR AND EXPLAINING (SFAE) METHOD TOWARDS SPEAKING ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Research at the Eight Grade Students of State Junior High School 3 Bulakamba-Brebes in the Academic Years 2013/2014)

The objective of this research is to find out whether there is positive effect of using SFAE method toward speaking achievement of the eight grade students of State Junior High School 3 Bulakamba-Brebes in the academic years of 2013/2014”. The research is done by classifying sample into two groups, they are experimental group and control group. Each group consists of 30 students. The sample is taken by using random sampling technique. Group one is experimental group that consists of students who are taught by using SFAE (Student Facilitator And Explaining) method and group two is control group that consists of students who are taught without using SFAE (Student Facilitator And Explaining) method.
The writer uses speaking test as the instrument of this research. Data analysis of this research is tested by using t-test. Based on the result with degree of freedom (df) 58 on the level of significance 5% t-table is 1,645, it shows that t-count is higher than t-table (3,416 > 1,645). It means that there is significant difference of the speaking achievement between students who are taught by using SFAE (Student Facilitator And Explaining) method and the students who are taught without using SFAE (Student Facilitator And Explaining) method.
The conclusion of this research is that using Student Facilitator And Explaining (SFAE) method gives positive effect towards students’ speaking achievement of the eight grade students of State Junior High School 3 Bulakamba-Brebes in the Academic Year of 2013/2014.
Based on the result of the study, the writer proposes some suggestions concerning the research findings as follows: The teachers should provide motivation or an award of the value of the assignment to the students, so that students are motivated to learn because they feel appreciated. Model Student Facilitator and Explaining learning (SFAE) can be used as an alternative to varying the learning model.
